A Different World sequel debuts on Netflix after campus tour

A Different World, a sequel to the television series set at the fictional Hillman College, was scheduled to debut on Netflix on 24 September. Netflix marked the launch with a series of campus events called the Road to Hillman.

The new show follows Deborah Wayne, the youngest daughter of original characters Dwayne Wayne and Whitley Gilbert, as she starts college. Maleah Joi Moon plays Deborah, with Kadeem Hardison and Jasmine Guy returning as her parents, according to Netflix’s production guide.

Debbie Allen, who directed the original series, returns as an executive producer and directs the sequel’s premiere episode. Netflix listed events in Houston, Chicago, Virginia, Washington and Atlanta during September, including a screening at Morehouse College’s Human Rights Film Festival.

The promotion ties the new cast to the original show’s college setting. Netflix’s article describes the tour and the planned premiere; availability can vary by territory, so viewers should check their local catalogue.
