Election Commission sets home visits for voters flagged in roll revision

The Election Commission of India said booth-level officers will visit the homes of voters who have received notices during the ongoing special intensive revision because of unmapped records or logical discrepancies. Officers will collect documents and upload them to ECINet for a decision by the electoral registration officer.

In a 26 September press note, the Commission said those voters ordinarily need not attend a hearing at an election office. Exceptional hearings should preferably be online, and an adult family member may be authorised to attend on an elector’s behalf.

District election officers were directed to provide help desks or special camps for people in night shelters, labourers, poorer residents and people without homes as needed. The Commission also extended the claims and objections period in Delhi to 30 October and in Maharashtra to 12 October.

The steps concern procedures for the roll revision. Voters should use the Election Commission’s official channels for their own status and deadlines, rather than assume that every notice follows the same process.
