Tangdhar eye camp carries out 220 surgeries over two days
Surgeons from the Armed Forces Medical Services carried out 220 sight-restoring operations at an eye camp in Tangdhar, Kupwara, on 24 and 25 September, the Ministry of Defence reported.
Most procedures were cataract operations. The ministry said the two-day camp also included selected retinal procedures and minimally invasive glaucoma surgery. The operation theatre was set up underground in the area near the Line of Control.
Patients travelled from Khawarpora, Tangdar, Tadd, Bagbela, Yangdar and nearby hamlets after screening and local radio outreach. The surgical team brought specialist equipment across mountainous terrain.
The ministry described this as the tenth camp in its Operation Drishti series. Across the series, it said more than 150,000 patients had been screened and more than 3,500 surgeries conducted. These totals refer to the whole programme, while 220 is the figure for the Tangdhar camp.
