Anant Nag receives Dadasaheb Phalke Award at National Film Awards
President Droupadi Murmu presented the 72nd National Film Awards at Ekta Nagar in Gujarat on 22 September. At the ceremony, she conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2024 on veteran actor Anant Nag for his contribution to Indian cinema, according to the President’s Secretariat.
The President praised Nag’s work across theatre and film, describing the restraint and authenticity of his performances. She said Indian cinema reflects the country’s many languages and regions, and noted the national recognition for the Santhali film Angen.
In her remarks, she discussed several recognised films, including Article 370, Bhangaar, Swatantrya Veer Savarkar and Bhakshak. She also urged respect and social security for film workers, assistants and smaller artists.
The awards ceremony brought national attention to work from across the industry and regional cinema. The honours and the President’s remarks were announced by the Press Information Bureau.
